Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Monday said that the public in the state has always trusted the Congress party and will continue to do so. He expressed his confidence in the upcoming elections.
Speaking to reporters in Durg, Bhupesh Baghel said, “They (BJP) haven’t promised anything to the public of Chhattisgarh. They know that the public of Chhattisgarh is not going to trust their guarantees. The public here has always put faith in Congress and the Congress government led by Bhupesh Baghel.”
Baghel filed his nomination papers on Monday, aiming to continue the Congress’s stronghold in the region after their 2018 victory in 11 out of 12 assembly seats.

‘Baghel term limited to 40 days’
Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and BJP Vice President Raman Singh criticised Baghel, saying his term is “limited to just 40 more days”.
“Priyanka Gandhi came to Chhattisgarh and announced to provide cylinders for Rs 500. The Bhupesh Baghel government knows that it will be thrown out of power. So, they are trying to save themselves by making announcements. It has no significance now. Bhupesh Baghel is the CM for 40 days more,” Raman Singh told ANI in Raipur.
Hitting out at the Chhattisgarh CM, Raman Singh said, “Corruption does take place but such corruption wherein the government itself, along with its officers, is involved, will only be found in Chhattisgarh.”

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda also took a jibe at the Chhattisgarh government, comparing the state’s past five years to an eclipse, and pledging to remove it.
“There was a lunar eclipse last night, but there has been an eclipse in Chhattisgarh for the last five years and now the time has come to get it removed,” Nadda said.
Speaking at a public meeting in Thelkadih village in Rajnandgaon district, Nadda accused the Baghel government of deeply being immersed in corruption and deceiving the public’s trust.
“Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s government is deeply immersed in corruption, due to which public welfare and development work have come to a standstill. Whatever promises the Congress Party made to the public remained unfulfilled. Bhupesh Baghel’s government is the only government that deceives the public,” Nadda asserted.
Chhattisgarh Elections 2023:
The upcoming Chhattisgarh elections are scheduled to be held in two phases on November 7 and 17. The counting of votes will be done on December 3.
In the 2018 Assembly polls, Congress secured a victory, winning 68 out of 90 seats, defeating the ruling BJP, which managed to secure only 15 seats.
The political landscape in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan is largely shaped by the Congress and BJP as the key players, while Telangana is expected to see a three-way contest between the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi, Congress, and BJP.
The BJP’s efforts to regain power from Congress in these states are expected to set the tone for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
