Chhattisgarh, since the voting began, is witnessing a tight contest between the BJP and Congress. The initial rounds, as per the official website of ECI, had shown Congress in the lead but soon the tides shifted. BJP has forged ahead, and currently stands at 55 seats out of the 90-seat Chhattisgarh Assembly. Here’s a break-up of leading leaders from different constituencies in Chhattisgarh:

Patan: In a surprising turn of events, BJP’s Vijay Baghel had initially overtaken Congress leader and incumbent CM Bhupesh Baghel. However, Bhupesh is now in the lead. As of now four rounds of voting are done with, according to the official website of the Election Commission of India.

Raipur: Raipur is currently being ruled by BJP in latest trends, as per ECI. Raipur City North has BJP’s Purandar Mishra in the lead. The same trend can be seen in Raipur City West and Raipur City South where BJP’s Rajesh Munnat and Brijmohan Agrawal are leading. Raipur Rural sees BJP’s Motilal Sahu in the lead and Guru Khushwant Saheb can be seen leading from Arang. Dharsiwa too has Anuj Sharma in the lead.

Ambikapur: Ambikapur is currently being led by BJP’s Rajesh Agrawal, according to the latest trends shown on the official website of the Election Commission of India. In a surprising turn of events, Congress’ TS Baba is trailing behind.

Rajnandgaon: This too is an important seat and is currently being led by BJP’s Raman Singh in the latest trends. INC’s Girish Dewangan is trailing close behind.

Sakti: Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Charan Das Mahant was also behind in the Sakti seat by 897 votes against BJP’s Khilawan Sahu.

Nawagarh: State Minister Guru Rudra Kumar, an influential leader from the SC community, was trailing in the Nawagarh seat by 660 votes against BJP’s former minister Dayaldas Baghel.

Kawardha: In the Kawardha seat, Minister Mohammad Akbar was trailing by 1,534 votes against BJP’s Vijay Sharma.

Korba: Minister Jai Singh Agrawal was trailing by 837 votes against BJP’s Lakhanlal Dewangan.

Vote counting for the 90-member Chhattisgarh assembly began at 8 am on Sunday, with strict security measures in place at counting centers across the state’s 33 districts, including those affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE), according to a poll official.
