Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday said that his party has made three major announcements so far. Taking potshots at the BJP, he said that the saffron party has annouced none.

Speaking to reporters in Raipur, he said, “We have made three announcements, first of all, we will do a caste census. The second thing is that we will buy 20 quintals of paddy, we have made all the arrangements for it. The third thing is that we will provide houses to 17.5 lakh people… BJP has not even made one announcement…”

In a recent interview, Baghel had asserted that there was no anti-incumbency, and noted that the BJP posed no challenge to the ruling Congress, as the party has been working for the welfare of all sections of people.

Chhattisgarh will go to polls in two phases. The first phase of polling for 20 seats in Chhattisgarh will be held on November 7, with the remaining 70 seats in Chhattisgarh going to polls on November 17, the Election Commission has announced. The counting of votes will take place on December 3.

With the announcement of poll dates, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force. These elections are crucial as they are taking place months before the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April-May next year.

In the 2018 assembly elections, the Congress registered a landslide victory, winning 68 seats out of 90 of those against the BJP which had won 15 seats.
