Eight Naxalites and one security personnel were killed in an encounter in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh on Saturday.
The gunfight erupted in the Abhujmad forest during a joint operation by security personnel from Narayanpur, Kanker, Dantewada, and Kondagaon districts aimed at countering Naxal activities, a senior police official in Raipur said, reports PTI.
“Eight Naxalites have been killed in the ongoing exchange of fire. One soldier was martyred in the encounter, and two others sustained injuries,” the official added.
The operation, involving personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) across four districts, the Special Task Force (STF), and the 53rd battalion of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), commenced on June 12, according to officials.
