The Ahmedabad cybercrime police have arrested Rene Joshild, a woman from Chennai, for sending email threats of bomb blasts across India. Joshilda sent bomb scare emails to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, among other locations across 12 states. She is a robotics engineer and senior consultant at Deloitte since 2022 and was taken into custody on Saturday.

The alleged motive behind the bomb threats was to defame Divij Prabhakar, a man whom she reportedly loved and intended to marry. However, Prabhakar allegedly married someone else in February.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sharad Singhal, Joshilda meticulously created fake email IDs, some in Prabhakar’s name, and utilised virtual private networks (VPNs) and the dark web to conceal her identity and location. “She loved Divij Prabhakar and wanted to marry him but it remained one-sided,” Singhal told PTI on Monday.

The investigation, which stemmed from an FIR registered at Sarkhej police station in Ahmedabad after a school received a threat mail on June 3, 2025, involved extensive technical surveillance to trace Joshilda’s digital footprint. The initial threat mail menacingly stated, “going to blast the bomb in your school to bring police attention about the rapist who raped the girl in Lemon Tree Hotel in Hyderabad in 2023.”
