Chawl number 37 in the Bharat Nagar area of Bandra East collapsed in the early hours of Friday, with at several people feared trapped in the debris. The incident occurred at 7:50 am.
According to ANI, quoting Mumbai Police, 12 people have been rescued so far from under the debris. They have been admitted to the nearest hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. According to the initial investigation, a cylinder blast took place in the building, after which some parts of the building suddenly collapsed.
Meanwhile, seven people are still trapped in the debris.
Relief and rescue work is being carried out by the Fire Department, Mumbai Police and BMC at the spot.
As many as seven people have been rescued from the debris so far and admitted to the civic-run Bhabha Hospital, they said.
Eight fire engines are at the spot along with teams from the Mumbai police and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s local ward machinery, an official from the fire brigade said.
“Search and rescue operation is underway. Further details are awaited,” he said.
