Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday hailed US Vice President elect-JD Vance’s victory in the presidential election as a historic moment as it will catapult a woman of Telugu heritage, Usha Chilukuri Vance, as the Second Lady of the United States.
Usha Vance will become the first woman of Telugu heritage to serve as the Second Lady of the US.

“I would also like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Mr JD Vance, on becoming the US Vice President-elect. His victory marks a historic moment, as Mrs. Usha Vance, who has roots in Andhra Pradesh, will become the first woman of Telugu heritage to serve as the Second Lady of the US. This is a moment of pride for the Telugu community around the world,” wrote the Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister on X.
Usha is the wife of JD Vance and her family’s ancestral village Vadluru is located near the famous Godavari town Tanuku in the lush green West Godavari district, about 35 km from district headquarters Bhimavaram.
Usha Vance was born in California to Indian immigrant parents from Andhra Pradesh, grew up in the suburbs of San Diego and attended Mt Carmel High School in Rancho Penasquitos. She later attended Yale Law School, where she met JD Vance, the now US Vice President-elect, in 2013.
The couple married in 2014 after graduating from Yale and have since welcomed three children — two sons, Ewan and Vivek, and a daughter, Mirabel.
In another post on X, Chandrababu Naidu also mentioned plans to invite the family to Andhra Pradesh, marking a moment of pride for the Telugu community as Usha Vance prepares to assume her historic role in the United States.

Earlier, Naidu also congratulated US President-elect Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, who is also an Indian-American politician.
“I congratulate Mr. DonaldTrump on his victory in the US Presidential Elections and wish him success as he prepares to lead his country forward. His first tenure marked significant strengthening of the Indo-US partnership. With the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi Ji and President Trump, I am confident our two nations will further strengthen their ties and foster greater cooperation,” Naidu posted on X.
