Chintan Raghuvanshi, the Deputy Director of Bhubaneswar Zonal Office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in an alleged bribery case.

The CBI carried out a trap operation on Thursday after receiving information that the officer was planning to accept a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from a mining businessman based in Bhubaneswar, PTI reported citing officials.

This amount was reportedly the first installment of a total Rs 50 lakh bribe.

CBI officials took the 2013-batch IRS officer to their office in Nayapalli for questioning shortly after he was caught, as per media reports. The agency also began questioning the mining businessman involved in the case.

After several hours of interrogation, the CBI formally arrested Raghuvanshi.

Earlier this year, on January 8, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had carried out raids at 14 different locations in Bhubaneswar and Dhenkanal linked to businessman Ratikant Rout.

The searches were part of an investigation into suspected illegal financial dealings by his company.
