The CBI has filed a new corruption case against Congress leader Karti Chidambaram, son of former finance minister P Chidambaram, officials said on Thursday.
The case alleges that Karti facilitated relief for Diageo Scotland regarding a ban on duty-free whisky sales. The CBI FIR states that Diageo Scotland and Sequoia Capital made suspicious payments to Advantage Strategic Consulting Pvt. Ltd., an entity linked to Karti and his aide S Bhaskararaman.
This development adds to the legal troubles surrounding Karti, who has faced previous allegations of corruption and misconduct.
“Enquiry revealed that out of various proposals of FIPB enquired into, it was found that Diageo Scotland and Sequoia Capitals have suspiciously transferred funds to Advantage Strategic Consulting Pvt. Ltd., an entity controlled by Sh. Karti P Chidambaram and his close aide S Bhaskararaman,” it said.
