Ahead of the commencement of the Lok Sabha elections, Delhi officials have initiated a novel way to encourage voters to cast their votes on May 25. Delhi hotels situated in Karol Bagh and Najafgarh zones announced on Tuesday a discount of 20 per cent to eligible voters.

Deputy Commissioner of Karol Bagh Zone, Abhishek Mishra said, “This initiative underscores the crucial role of voter participation in strengthening democracy and nurturing civic responsibility,” PTI reported.

For customers to avail of this offer they are required to provide proof of their participation by displaying the ink mark on their finger. Underlining the value of each vote, Mishra emphasised the initiative’s objective to motivate citizens to actively participate in the democratic process and fulfill their civic duties.

Supported by local associations, the initiative aims to increase voter turnout and civic engagement in the Karol Bagh and Najafgarh areas. Mishra revealed discussions with the Public Health Department of MCD regarding extending similar incentives to traders in Karol Bagh.

Deputy Commissioner Badal Kumar echoed Mishra’s sentiments, urging the Hotel and Guest House Association of Mahipalpur to provide discounts on room rates to voters, PTI reported.

Kumar elaborated that eligible voters could claim the discount by booking accommodations within 24 hours of casting their votes. This endeavour seeks to incentivize voter participation and nurture a sense of civic responsibility, thereby bolstering the democratic fabric of the Karol Bagh and Najafgarh regions.

Through tangible benefits for voters and collaborative efforts with local stakeholders, the initiative strives to empower citizens and strengthen the democratic ethos in these communities.
