The Parliamentary Committee has issued summons to Lok Sabha MP Nishikant Dubey and Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai, asking them to provide “oral evidence” concerning the ‘cash for query’ complaint made by the Bharatiya Janata Party leader against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra.

The scheduled date for this testimony is October 26.

The subject of the Lok Sabha secretariat communication to Nishikant Dubey states, “Oral evidence of Nishikant Dubey, MP, in respect of a complaint dated October 15, 2023, given by him against Smt. Mahua Moitra, MP, for alleged direct involvement in cash for a query in Parliament.”

A letter sent by a secretariat official further states, “I am directed to state that the Committee on Ethics has decided to hear you in the above matter, in person, on Thursday, October 26, 2023.”

The committee is currently investigating Nishikant Dubey’s accusation that Mahua Moitra received “bribes” from a businessman in exchange for raising questions in Parliament, reportedly to target the Adani group.

Mahua Moitra has denied these allegations. The summons were issued in response to Dubey’s request to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, where he called for the formation of an “inquiry committee” to investigate these charges.

Dubey also requested Moitra’s suspension from the House until the panel submits its report.

Mahua Moitra has dismissed the allegations and instead urged the Speaker to initiate an investigation into the “multiple breach of privileges” pending against Dubey and other BJP leaders.

She has also taken legal action by approaching the Delhi High Court to seek an injunction against Nishikant Dubey, Jai Anant Dehadrai, and various social media platforms and media outlets to prevent the posting, circulation, or publication of any alleged fake and defamatory content against her.
