A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan has been detained by Pakistan Rangers after accidentally crossing the Punjab border, officials confirmed on Thursday (April 24). Constable PK Singh of the 182nd battalion was apprehended by the Pakistan Rangers near the Ferozepur border on Wednesday.

The jawan, who was in uniform and carrying his service rifle, was accompanying farmers when he moved ahead to rest in the shade and was detained. A flag meeting is currently underway between the two forces to secure his release.

“Senior officials from both sides are reportedly in communication to resolve the matter amicably,” officials privy to the development told ANI.

Officials noted that such incidents are not uncommon and have occurred previously. This event comes amid heightened tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack, with India taking strong measures against Pakistan for allegedly sponsoring terrorism.

BSF is the main force tasked with securing the 3,323 km-long India-Pakistan border, which stretches across the states of Jammu and Kashmir (including parts of the Line of Control), Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.

This border is considered one of the most sensitive and volatile in India, owing to historical conflicts and ongoing security issues.
