Breaking News Today LIVE: 'We love India,' US Energy Sec Chris Wright optimistic about 'more energy trade'
On Wednesday, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright shone optimistic light in the path of more energy trade between the US and "awesome ally" India.
Calling himself a "huge fan of India," he told PTI, " A lot of my early time when I arrived in my position was dealing with India, the world's largest democracy, an awesome ally of the United States, a fast growing economy, a truly dynamic society that of course has rapidly growing energy demand because people are increasing their prosperity, their opportunities."
While at the New York Foreign Press Centre, he also said, "We look forward to more energy trade, more interactions back and forth with India."
Wright still highlighted the friction between the countries, pointing towards India's purchase of Russian oil and imposition of additional tariffs on the country in the face of it.
Speaking of President Donald Trump, he added, " When I talk to him, it does not matter what the topic is; peace comes up. How can we use our tools and leverage to drive peace? The Russian war in Ukraine, of course, is brutal. We all want to see it come to an end."
Despite the prevalent "friction" on the issue, he said that the US believed Indians are equally keen on wanting to bring Russia's war in Ukraine to an end. "And we want to expand our energy cooperation with India in natural gas and coal, in nuclear, in clean cooking fuels, liquid petroleum gas. India has been a star in that area. So we want nothing more than more trade energy cooperation with India," the energy secretary noted.

And yet, they also emphasised the diplomatic ties remain "on a positive trajectory" despite the recent back and forth between US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Highlighting the current administration's transparency, the official said, "When you step back from this brief moment, and look at the relationship, it is really on a positive trajectory, and it's only expanding."
