1 killed in Black Sea attack

A Russian missile damaged a Liberia-flagged civilian vessel entering a Black Sea port in Odesa region, killing one and injuring four people, Ukrainian officials said on Wednesday. After pulling out of the U.N.-brokered deal that guaranteed safe shipments of Ukrainian grain via the Black Sea, Russia has been repeatedly attacking Ukrainian port infrastructure. “The missile hit the superstructure of a civilian vessel under the flag of Liberia, at the moment of its entry into the port,” Ukraine’s southern military command said on Telegram messenger. BSF head constable killed in unprovoked firing by Pak rangers

A BSF head constable was killed in unprovoked firing by Pakistan Rangers along the International Border (IB) in the Ramgarh sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district early Thursday, officials said. The firing targeting Border Outposts in the district is the third ceasefire violation in 24 days by Pakistan Rangers along the IB in the Jammu frontier. (PTI)

Internet ban lifted from 4 districts of Manipur

The Manipur government has lifted the mobile internet ban in four hill district headquarters that have not been touched by ethnic violence, officials said on Thursday. The internet ban was lifted on a trial basis in the Naga-majority districts of Ukhrul, Senapati, Chandel, and Tamenglong, they claimed.

Power transformer catches fire in Thane; no casualty

According to municipal officials, an electricity transformer caught fire on Thursday morning in Bhiwandi town, in the Thane district of Maharashtra. The transformer in the Subhash Nagar area caught fire at around 5:30 in the morning, but no one was hurt, according to Sakib Kharbe, the disaster management officer for the Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation.

Schools in several districts of Tamil Nadu closed today due to heavy rainfall

Due to excessive rain on Thursday, several districts in Tamil Nadu announced a school holiday. According to directives from the district magistrates in each of these four locations, schools in Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Dindigul, and Madurai will stay closed. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that isolated periods of heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu on November 8–9 are likely to persist, with a marked decrease after that.

Delhi’s air quality severe; slight relief likely ahead of Diwali

National capital recorded another day in ‘severe’ category with a marginal improvement expected just ahead of Diwali as meteorological conditions are likely to become slightly favourable. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 420 at 8 am on Thursday, compared to 426 at 4 pm on Wednesday. The AQI map prepared by the Central Pollution Control Board showed clusters of red dots (indicating hazardous air quality) spread across the Indo-Gangetic plains.
