LS Ethics panel to meet Thursday to adopt report on cash-for-query allegation against Mahua Moitra

The Ethics Committee of Lok Sabha will meet on Thursday to adopt a draft report on the cash-for-query allegation against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra amid indications that the panel may take a grim view of the charges against her. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had approached Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla against Moitra, accusing her of asking questions in Lok Sabha to target the Adani Group at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts.

Fire put out at plant of Russia’s largest zinc deposit

A fire was extinguished on Wednesday at Russia’s Ozerny mining and processing plant and the company was assessing the possible impact on the planned start next year of full-scale operations at the country’s largest zinc deposit, a spokesperson said. Left parties march in Kolkata against Israel’s military operation in Gaza

The CPI(M) and other Left parties took out an ‘anti-war’ march here on Wednesday against Israel’s military offensive in Gaza, demanding a US-brokered ceasefire to halt the conflict. Raising slogans against the Israeli offensive, leaders and supporters of the Left parties marched from Mahajati Sadan in north Kolkata to Ramleela Park in the central part of the city.

Bigg Boss winner and YouTuber Elvish Yadav appeared before Noida police late Tuesday night in connection with a snake venom case, police said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Noida, Harish Chander said, “YouTuber and Bigg Boss winner Elvish Yadav appeared before the Noida police late at night in connection with the snake venom case. Police have called him again.” This comes after Elvish was named in the FIR filed in the case along with five others. Five of those alleged accused have since been arrested by the Police. (ANI)

Israel hunts Hamas in tunnels after encircling Gaza City

Israel’s ground forces in the Gaza Strip aimed on Wednesday to locate and disable Hamas militants’ vast tunnel network beneath the enclave, the next phase in an Israeli offensive that has killed thousands of Palestinians. Since Hamas gunmen killed 1,400 people and took some 240 hostages in an Oct. 7 cross-border raid, Israel has pounded Gaza from the air and used ground troops to divide the coastal enclave in two. Delhi govt sends team to inspect shut Connaught Place smog tower

The Delhi government on Wednesday sent a team to inspect the smog tower located in Connaught Place which stopped operating following “unilateral” directions by Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) chairperson Ashwani Kumar. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court had directed that the smog tower be made operational. The air quality in Delhi and its suburbs dropped to the severe category again on Wednesday morning, with smoke from post-harvest paddy straw burning in neighbouring states accounting for one-third of the air pollution.
