Gaza war death toll tops 10,000

UN agency leaders saying “enough is enough” demanded a humanitarian ceasefire on Monday nearly a month into Gaza’s war, as health authorities in the enclave said the death toll from Israeli strikes now exceeded 10,000. Israel has rebuffed mounting international pressure for a ceasefire, saying hostages taken by Hamas militants during their rampage in southern Israel on Oct. 7 should be released first. (Reuters)

Gunmen kill at least 20 in pre-dawn attack in Cameroon

Gunmen opened fire on people as they slept in a town in western Cameroon in the early hours of Monday, leaving at least 20 dead, a local government official said. Residents said they suspected the attack was meant to disrupt celebrations marking the 41st anniversary of Paul Biya becoming Cameroon’s president that were due to take place in Mamfe and other centres on Monday. More tremors in Nepal three days after deadly earthquake, no damage reported yet

A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck Nepal on Monday, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre said, three days after 153 people were killed in the country’s worst quake since 2015. Monday’s earthquake had its epicenter in Ramidanda in Jajarkot district, the same place as Friday’s quake, but there were no reports of any injuries or damage so far, the country’s National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre said. Ex-Pondy Speaker P Kannan dies at 74

Former Speaker of Puducherry Assembly P Kannan passed away at a private hospital here after prolonged illness. He was 74 and is survived by wife, a son and daughter, family sources said. In a release, the hospital where he was treated said, Kannan was suffering from viral pneumonia. It was also stated that he was suffering from chronic lung disease for more than half a decade. (PTI)
