Israeli airstrikes hit apartment buildings in a refugee camp near Gaza City for a second day in a row, causing many deaths and injuries, the Hamas-run government said. Apple Inc on Wednesday lost a bid to block a mass London lawsuit accusing it of hiding defective batteries in millions of iPhones by “throttling” them with software updates. The tech giant is facing a lawsuit brought by consumer champion Justin Gutmann on behalf of iPhone users in the United Kingdom, which the Competition Appeal Tribunal ruled can proceed. (REUTERS)

Maratha Quota Stir: What happened at the all-party meeting?

Leaders at an all-party meeting on Maratha quota chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday passed a resolution asking activist Manoj Jarange to call off his indefinite fast. The Maharashtra government is in favour of the Maratha quota, CM Shinde said after the meeting in Mumbai. Activist Jarange should cooperate with the government in ensuring quota for the Maratha community he said. The CM said Marathas should observe restraint. (PTI)

Landmine explosion near LoC in J-K’s Pooch

Three Army personnel were injured in a landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Wednesday, officials said. The soldiers were patrolling Phagwari Gali area in Mendhar sector when the landmine got activated, the officials said quoting preliminary information. The injured were evacuated to a nearby medical facility and later two of them were referred to a military hospital in Rajouri for specialised treatment, the officials said. (PTI)

FIR against Kannada actor Darshan after his pet dogs attack woman

An FIR has been registered against Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa after his pet dogs allegedly attacked and bit a 48-year old woman who had parked her car near his house here, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place on October 28 when the woman had gone to RR Nagar to attend a programme after parking her car at a vacant space near the actor’s house in in RR Nagar, they said. (PTI)

Under new MCD policy, no meat shops allowed within 150 metres of religious places in Delhi

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House has passed a new policy that states the minimum distance between a meat shop and a religious place or a cremation ground should not be less than 150 metres. The condition is mentioned in the policy for the grant of new or renewal of licenses to meat shops or meat processing units as passed by the MCD House on Tuesday.
