Navnoor Singh, the son of Navjot Singh, Finance ministry bureaucrat who was killed in the accident at Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan on September 14, believes his father’s life could have been saved if he had been taken to a superspeciality hospital nearby instead of a facility 20 km away that lacked proper treatment options.

“I got a call from a family friend who told me about the accident and that my parents are admitted to Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar,” he told ANI.

Son questions delay and hospital facilities

Navnoor said the accident took place around 1 or 1:30 pm when a BMW driven by a girl hit his parents’ motorcycle.

“The accident happened around one or 1:30 pm, a girl driving a BMW hit my parents’ motorcycle. There was definitely something wrong, but they were taken to a hospital 20 km away, which had no facilities,” he said.

He told reporters that his father was declared dead in the hospital, “but people there said that he died instantly after an accident, which is very rare. There are many superspeciality hospitals near Dhaula Kuan and AIIMS too, if they had been sent there, he could have been saved,” Navnoor added.

Claim of link between driver and hospital

Navnoor also claimed that the hospital where his parents were taken belongs to the BMW driver.

“Those who were in the car have sustained minor injuries and are in the same hospital, but I am not sure if it is from a trusted source. Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar belongs to the girl who was driving the BMW, and her husband was also admitted to the same hospital… My parents were sent to the hospital in a delivery van. When my mother gained consciousness, she was in the passenger seat and looked back to see my father lying down,” he said.

According to Delhi Police, the deceased man who lived in Hari Nagar, was riding a motorcycle with his wife when the BMW collided with them. After the impact, the bike also hit a bus on the left.

Police said eyewitnesses confirmed that a woman was driving the BMW when it hit the motorcycle. After the crash, the woman and her husband took a taxi and rushed the injured couple to a hospital.

The hospital later informed police that one person had died and another was injured. Authorities have seized both the BMW and the motorcycle. The crime team inspected the accident site, and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was also called to assist with the investigation.

Public outrage and reactions

The incident has also sparked strong reactions on social media. Many users are questioning why the victims were taken to a hospital nearly 20 km away from Dhaula Kuan instead of being admitted to a nearby superspeciality facility.

An X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, “WHAT? Dhaula kuan accident spot & took injured person to GTB nagar. They don’t want them to survive. Gruesome.”

Another user shared the similar sentiment saying, “If a bureaucrat can’t get justice in our country, imagine how big the level of corruption has reached in our country”.

One more comment surfaced where a user noted, “Driving in Delhi has never been an easy thing, people are so much in rush as if they have to conquer sth even on red lights everyone’s in rush. India needs to prioritise more public transport like metro,RRTS,bus and tram too in future”.
