The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of undermining the Indian Armed Forces and endangering national security through his statements on Operation Sindoor. BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia criticised Gandhi for what he called “irresponsible remarks” and alleged that his comments were being used by Pakistan to malign India internationally.
At a press conference, Bhatia questioned Gandhi’s political alignment, saying, “Rahul Gandhi, you have to decide whether you are India’s Leader of Opposition or Pakistan’s Nishan-e-Pakistan.” He alleged that Gandhi was pushing the narrative of countries hostile to India and compromising national interest for political gain.
The BJP’s response comes a day after Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of compromising India’s prestige by agreeing to halt hostilities against Pakistan, questioning the government’s handling of the ongoing military operation.
Bhatia defended the government’s actions and the Indian Air Force, asserting that details about combat should not be demanded during an ongoing operation. “Your basic character is anti-India and weakens the morale of our forces,” he alleged.
The BJP also took aim at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for describing Operation Sindoor as a “chhutput yuddh” (minor skirmish), claiming it reflected the party’s “irresponsible attitude.”
Bhatia concluded by asserting that Operation Sindoor, which reportedly aims to eliminate terrorism and its masterminds, would continue under PM Modi’s leadership and that the armed forces would not be discouraged by political criticism.
