The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday accused Haryana Congress leader Randeep Surjewala of making “vile, sexist” remarks against its Mathura MP Hema Malini, alleging it shows that the main opposition party is misogynistic and abhors women.

BJP’s IT department head Amit Malviya shared an undated video on X in which the Congress MP is purportedly making some objectionable remarks about the actor-politician while attacking the ruling party.

He said, “Congress MP Randeep Surjewala makes a vile sexist comment, that is demeaning and derogatory, not just for Hema Malini, who is an accomplished individual, but women in general”.

According to Malviya, “He (Surjewala) asks, “MLA/MP kyun banate hain? Taaki vo humari awaaz utha sake, humare baat manvaye, isliye banate honge. Koi Hema Malini toh nahi, jo chatne ke liye banate hai? [“Why do we make MLA/MP? So that they can raise our voice, get our views accepted. It is no Hema Malini, who’s made to lick?]”

Malviya added that this is the most disgusting description someone can come up with.

“This is Rahul Gandhi’s Congress. It is misogynistic and abhors women,” he said, sharing the comments of Surjewala.

The Bollywood actor and BJP MP Hema Malini also reacted to the remark and said, “It is his work, they are in opposition. They will not speak well about it, we will do a counter attack. The people of Mathura are with me and they are all very happy. I have the blessing of PM Modi…”

“I am very happy to get the opportunity to serve the people of Mathura for the third time. I will finish the work that could not be done in my two terms. This time, huge development projects will be launched for the people of Mathura. UP CM Yogi Adityanath extends all possible help for Mathura,” Malini added.

Hema Malini is a BJP Lok Sabha member from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh and is contesting the 2024 general elections from the same seat.

‘Video distorted by BJP’

After facing a backlash from the leaders of the BJP over his alleged objectionable statement against Hema Malini, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala on Thursday clarified that he never intended to insult or hurt the actor-politician.

Referring to Malviya’s post, Surjewala said that the video posted by the BJP leader has been edited, distorted and shared to distract the country from the Modi government’s anti-youth, anti-farmer, anti-poor policies and its conspiracy to destroy the Constitution of India.

“BJP’s IT Cell has developed a habit of editing, distorting and spreading fake news so that it can distract the country,” he said, ANI reported.

“Listen to the full video – I said, “We also respect Hema Malini a lot because she is married to Dharmendra ji and is our daughter-in-law,” the Congress leader added.
