Vijender Gupta, the BJP MLA from Rohini, has been elected as the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly. His name was proposed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and supported by BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa. The election took place through a voice vote.

Following his election, CM Rekha Gupta and the Leader of Opposition escorted Gupta to the Speaker’s chair, adhering to the House tradition. Gupta secured the biggest victory among BJP candidates in the Delhi Assembly elections, winning from Rohini with a margin of over 37,000 votes.

Vijender Gupta reiterated his commitment to ensuring the tabling of 14 CAG reports, which were allegedly withheld by the previous AAP government.

“I am deeply grateful to my party for entrusting me with this responsibility as Speaker of the Delhi Assembly. I will fulfill this role diligently,” Gupta told PTI.

In the newly constituted 8th Delhi Assembly, the BJP holds a majority with 48 MLAs, while the opposition AAP has 22 legislators. The Speaker is elected by the members of the House.
