Bihar Assembly Election 2025: In a key election promise ahead of the Bihar assembly polls, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday said that if the Mahagathbandhan comes to power, all ‘Jeevika Didis’ in the state will be given permanent government jobs with a monthly salary of Rs 30,000.

Tejashwi Yadav’s promise to ‘Jeevika Didis’

Yadav said that his government will make all Jeevika CM (Community Mobilisers) Didis permanent, give them the status of government employees, and increase their salaries to Rs 30,000, noting that this has been a long-standing demand. “All of you are aware that injustice was done to the Jeevika Didis under this government (Nitish-led govt). We have decided we will also increase their salary to Rs 30,000 per month. This is not an ordinary announcement. This has been the demand of Jeevika Didis,” he said during a press conference in Patna.

Yadav’s jibe at Nitish-led govt

The “injustice” jibe was targeted at Nitish Kumar, who Yadav claimed gave women Rs 10,000, but it was given as a loan, and was also recovered after the elections. Yadav also mentioned that his party had previously announced that in families where no one has a government job, one member of such families would be given a government job, and this would be implemented within 20 days of their government coming to power.

RJD promises interest-free loans and more welfare schemes

RJD leader Yadav said that if his party comes to power, loans will also be made interest-free for up to two years. “Each Jeevika Didi would receive an extra allowance of Rs 2,000 per month and insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakh,” Yadav said.

He also promised to start the BETI and MAA schemes. He said that in the MAA scheme, “M” stands for Makaan (housing), “A” for Ann (food), and “A” for Aamdani (income), with the goal of supporting families and improving their livelihoods.

Yadav also made significant announcements for contractual employees, stating that the government will engage more than 2 lakh contractual workers through Urmila and Beltron. He said that all contractual employees working in Bihar will be made permanent and that the government will work to relieve them of mental, physical, and financial stress.

Yadav dodges question on rift in Mahagathbandhan

When asked about reported disagreements within the Grand Alliance, Yadav dismissed the claims, saying there were no disputes. He concluded the press conference quickly and said he would address the media again on Thursday.
