Bihar Assembly Election 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana to support women entrepreneur in Bihar by providing an initial support of Rs 10,000 to each of 75 lakh women for their business ideas. The scheme was previously launched by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, to promote women empowerment. The NDA government’s Rs 7,500-crore scheme is aimed at promoting self-employment and livelihood opportunities.

PM Modi launched the women-centric scheme virtually from Delhi. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and other ministers attended the event through video conference from Patna, reported PTI.

The launch comes just weeks before Bihar will vote to elect a fresh government.

Meanwhile, addressing the gathering, PM Modi said, “Bihar’s 75 lakh women received Rs 10,000 each under new scheme, to get additional Rs 2 lakh for improvement of entrepreneurial skills.”

He added the women of Bihar have two brothers – “Modi and Nitish ji”, who are working for their “empowerment”.

What is the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana?

Under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, the state government will provide financial support to one woman from each family for any livelihood activities of their choice, that leads them to social empowerment. A senior official told the news agency that the scheme aims economic independence for women of Bihar.

“Each beneficiary will receive an initial grant of Rs 10,000 via direct benefit transfer, with the possibility of additional financial support of up to Rs 2 lakh in subsequent phases,” the official added.

In a post on X, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, said on Friday, “A historic day for the daughters and sisters of Bihar. PM Narendra Modi Ji will transfer a total amount of Rs 7,500 crore; Rs 10,000 each to 75 lakh women beneficiaries of Bihar under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana through video conferencing.”

“This will not only provide financial assistance to women for self-employment but will also prove to be a strong step towards making them self-reliant and empowered,” he added.

Bihar election 2025 schedule

As of now, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not announced the dates of the polls. The dates would be declared once the ECI rolls out the final draft roll post Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state on September 30.

The poll panel has reportedly ordered Bihar Chief Secretary and the Chief Electoral Officer to finish all transfers and postings of government officers who have remained in the same location for over 3 years. While the order is a routine step, what is important is that a report on the action taken over this order has been sought by October 6.

This suggests that the dates of the assembly elections in Bihar could be announced anytime after October 6. A government has to be in place in Bihar by November 22, according to the ECI.
