Bihar election: Polling dates and timing
The Election Commission of India (ECI) decided to conduct the assembly polls in Bihar in two phases this time. People will cast their votes on November 6, when the first place will take place; and on Nov 11 when the second and concluding phase will be held.
The campaigning for both phases will cease 48 hours prior to voting day respectively. Elaborate security arrangements are being made to ensure smooth and fair polling on Nov 6 and 11.
The polling will begin at 7 am and will continue till 5 pm. However, on some sensitive areas, the polling will conclude an hour earlier at 4 pm.
Constituencies going to election
Bihar has an assembly of 243 constituencies, of which, 121 will go to polls on Nov 6 and remaining 122 on Nov 11. The ECI said that polling parties shall be formed randomly, through the special randomization IT application for the elections.
Counting and results
The election commission will begin counting of votes on November 14 from 8 am. Initially, the counting of postal ballots will be taken.
However, as per the new rule, the final rounds of EVM counting won’t take place unless the returning officers have the data of ballots.
The picture will be clear by evening, while the official results could take longer. Once declared, the winning party or alliance will approach the governor to form the government, which needs to be in place before Nov 22.
