Bengaluru and parts of South Interior Karnataka are preparing for a spell of heavy rainfall as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather warning for December 2. The city and its surrounding areas are expected to experience very heavy rainfall, which could lead to potential disruptions. This weather event is linked to Cyclone Fengal, which made landfall along the Tamil Nadu coast on the night of November 30.

Cyclone Fengal continues to move west-northwest and is expected to gradually weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area over north interior Tamil Nadu within the next six hours, according to the IMD.

“The remnant low pressure area is likely to emerge over southeast and adjoining eastcentral Arabian Sea off north Kerala-Karnataka coasts around 3rd December 2024,” the IMD said in a post on X.

Bengaluru schools closed?

Amid continuous rainfall and an orange alert issued by the IMD, Bengaluru residents are urging authorities to declare a school holiday, citing safety concerns for students traveling in the challenging weather conditions. Currently, there is no official announcement regarding school closures in Bengaluru. As of now, schools and colleges are expected to remain open and function as usual.

However, there has been widespread demand from users on X (formerly Twitter) calling for a closure due to the expected weather conditions.
