The Karnataka police have intensified the investigation into the low-intensity bomb blast that took place at the popular Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru’s Whitefield area on Friday during the busy lunch hours, injuring 10 people.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who visited the spot after th explosion on Friday, said explosion was a low intensity blast and a timer was fixed. Shivakumar along with Home Minister G Parameshwara visited the blast site and later also checked on the injured admitted at the hospital.
“The blast occurred at 1 pm. It happened at Rameshwaram Cafe. A young man of about 28-30 years came to the cafe, purchased Rava Idli at the counter, placed the bag near a tree (adjacent to the cafe) and left. After one hour the blast occurred,” Shivakumar said, as quoted by PTI.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “it was a bomb blast with a low intensity or impact. He (man) had fixed a timer for the blast to happen after one hour.”
The deputy CM added, “Seven to eight teams have been mobilized, actively conducting inquiries. There is no cause for alarm,” he assured. “Efforts to trace the perpetrator are underway, with police given full autonomy in their investigation. We are confident of a swift resolution within hours.”
Regarding casualties, Shivakumar reported ten injuries, reassuring that none were severe and all are now stable.
“We are exploring all possible angles,” he added, stressing the police’s authority to pursue leads as they see fit.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru Police Commissioner in a post on X on Saturday said, “As regards the Rameshwaram cafe incident, the investigation is in full swing. Several teams are working on different leads obtained so far. Keeping in mind the sensitivity of the case and the security concerns, the media is appealed not to indulge in speculation and cooperate.”
