Hyderabad: A 10,000-litre tanker plunged into a massive crater in the upscale Banjara Hills after the road caved in on Tuesday Morning. The incident happened when the vehicle was driving over a drain which was unable to take its weight. As per Telangana Today, the driver of the tanker and the cleaner were injured.

After the tanker collapsed near Maheshwari Chambers at around 11 AM, locals alerted the police. Soon after, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the traffic police rushed to the spot. The driver and the cleaner pulled the injured from the vehicle and rushed them to a nearby hospital for treatment. The damaged road section has since been cordoned off.

A video of the same has gone viral on social media. It opens to show the moment after the truck got lodged inside the carter as curious locals gathered nearby. It progresses to show people making a video of the tanker, which got stuck after the road suddenly caved in. At one point, the video also shows the water flowing below the vehicle, suggesting the road may have weakened due to the underlying drain.

According to multiple reports, it was the first incident after Hyderabad received heavy rainfall yesterday night. The GHMC officials, as per Telangana Today, stated that the road suddenly opened due to the heavy load of the tanker.

The outlet also reported that residents had flagged the deteriorating condition of roads and drainage systems in Banjara Hills, but authorities have constantly ignored them.
