Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said that a plot near the mayor’s bungalow at Dadar will be used to build a memorial in the memory of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, and added that it would inspire people to emulate his contribution to society while he was alive.

“Selected Mayor Bungalow which is located in Shivaji park of Dadar will be used to build Bala Saheb’s memorial. The memorial will be set up on similar lines to the memorial of the first chief minister of Maharashtra, Yashwantrao Chavan,” Fadnavis told media at a press conference here.

“A foundation stone will also be setup, which will be headed by Uddhav Thackeray. The memorial will remind the people of the values followed by Balasaheb and the work done by him in Maharashtra and the entire country,” he added.

Bal Thackeray passed away on November 17, 2012 as a result of a cardiac arrest. Thackeray began his professional career as a cartoonist with a English daily and founded the Shiv Sena in 1966 with the intent of fighting for the rights of the natives of the Maharashtra.
