The Delhi High Court has given bail to Wrestler Sushil Kumar in the Sagar Dhankar murder case. Justice Sanjeev Narula granted bail to the wrestler on furnishing a bail bond of Rs 50,000 along with two sureties. Dhankar was murdered on the night of 4 May 2021, which followed the arrest of Sushil Kumar. However, the wrestler got the 7 days interim bail for knee surgery in July 2023.

Sushil Kumar was represented by RS Malik and Sumeet Shokeen, where they argued that the accused has been in custody for more than three and a half years. In the argument, they also mentioned that 30 out of 186 prosecution witnesses have been examined in the last three years.

On the night of May 4, 2021, wrestler Sagar, along with other victims, was allegedly beaten up by Suhsil Kumar and a few others at the Chhatrasal Stadium. The fight that broke out was later led to the death of Sagar Dhankar due to injuries.

Sushil Kumar is regarded as one of the country’s most accomplished athletes. He earned a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics and followed it up with a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
