Bangalore is all set to hike autorickshaw fares from August 1, 2025. The Bangalore Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a revision in autorickshaw fares. The new fare structure will be applicable within the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) limits. Notably, this will be the first fare hike since November 2021.

Revised fare structure

The base fare for the first two kilometres will increase from Rs 30 to Rs 36, while the per-kilometre rate thereafter will rise from Rs 15 to Rs 18. Also, late-night rides are costlier. A night surcharge of 50% will apply between 10 pm and 5 am, according to the government notifications.

The Transport Authority also revised the waiting and luggage charges for autos. According to the government notification, the first five minutes of waiting will be free, after which passengers will be charged Rs 10 for every 15 minutes. Luggage up to 20 kg will be allowed free of charge, with an additional Rs 10 levied for each extra kilogram, up to a maximum of 50 kg.

Auto drivers have been instructed to display the approved fare list prominently inside their vehicles. The government has also asked drivers to ensure that all meters are modified and certified to reflect the new rates by October 31, 2025.

This fare revision comes after repeated demands from autorickshaw unions, who cited rising fuel costs, maintenance expenses, and general inflation. The last fare hike was in 2021, when the base fare was increased from Rs 25 to Rs 30.

Karnataka Transport Department intensified its crackdown on autos for overcharging and illegal operations. In June, officials filed 260 cases and seized 98 vehicles across the city for overcharging and illegal auto operations.
