Air India Flight AI171, en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in a crash shortly after takeoff on Thursday, June 12, outside the premises of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA). In the aftermath of the incident, all flight operations at the airport have been temporarily suspended.

According to an official statement from the SVPIA spokesperson, “Flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London, Gatwick, earlier today, was involved in a crash shortly after takeoff, outside the airport. As a result, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad, is currently not operational. All flight operations are temporarily suspended until further notice.”

Thick smoke was seen billowing from the crash site, and emergency response teams, including fire tenders and medical aid, were immediately dispatched. Details regarding injuries or casualties are still awaited.

Passengers scheduled to travel from or to Ahmedabad have been advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest updates and alternate arrangements before heading to the airport. “We request your cooperation and patience as authorities manage this evolving situation,” the airport authority said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken with Gujarat Chief Minister and senior officials, assuring Central government support in managing the crisis.
