Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on Thursday, accusing it of turning Delhi into a “garbage dump” and failing to provide basic amenities while allowing illegal immigrants, including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, to settle in the city’s Okhla area.

Speaking at his first rally in Kirari ahead of the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections, Adityanath also hit out at Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of turning the Yamuna River into a “dirty drain.”

“I was at the Sangam in Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh, where I took a holy dip with my ministers. I want to ask Kejriwal if he can bathe in the Yamuna in Delhi with his ministers. Does he have the moral courage to do so?” Adityanath said.

The Uttar Pradesh chief minister further criticised the AAP government for poor infrastructure in Delhi, pointing to deteriorating roads, sanitation issues, and problems with drinking water and sewer overflows. He also claimed that the condition of roads in Noida and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh was far better than in Delhi.

Adityanath accused the AAP government of charging three times higher electricity rates while failing to ensure a consistent power supply.

The elections to the 70-member Delhi Assembly will be held on February 5 and results will be announced on February 8. The AAP, which is eyeing a third consecutive win, faces a tight contest from the BJP this polls.
