Former Calcutta High Court Judge Abhijit Ganguly joined the BJP on Thursday. West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar and senior party leader Suvendu Adhikari were present at the induction ceremony.

Posting the photos of the event, BJP’s Locket Chatterjee captioned it with a thank you not. “His integrity and dedication make him an ideal addition to our team. Thank you for choosing to stand with us in our mission for a better future,” Chatterjee said in the post on X (formerly Twitter).

The former judge held a press conference at his Salt Lake residence shortly after submitting his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu, with copies sent to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Calcutta High Court Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam.

In his statement, he expressed that he was compelled to resign due to continuous taunts from the ruling party. He mentioned feeling insulted by their remarks and criticized their spokespersons for using inappropriate language against him. He suggested that the ruling party may have issues with their education.

The BJP had bagged 18 out of 42 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha Election. PM Modi, in a recent visit to Barasat, had said that “lotus should bloom on all the 42 seats”.
