Dinesh Vaghela, the founding member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), passed away in Panaji, Goa, on Monday night after battling a brief illness, confirmed AAP Goa vice president Valmiki Naik.

Vaghela, aged 73, breathed his last at his residence. Originally from Gujarat, Vaghela made Goa his home and actively participated in the state’s political landscape.

In an announcement on their official handle on X, the AAP stated, “We regret to announce the passing of one of @AamAadmiParty’s founding members, Shri Dinesh Vaghela, popularly known as Babaji. He was a member of the National Executive and worked actively in Goa and other states to build the party. He is survived by his wife & two sons.”

As per the AAP’s official website, Vaghela was a member of the party’s National Executive and among its earliest members, joining after the India Against Corruption movement. Originally hailing from Gujarat, he made Goa his home and took charge of the AAP’s disciplinary committee.

Vaghela’s last rites are scheduled to take place at the St Inez Crematorium near Panaji later in the day.
