Mumbai police have arrested a 24-year-old woman for allegedly issuing a death threat to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. An official disclosed on Sunday that Fatima Khan, a BSc Information Technology graduate, resides in Ulhasnagar, Thane district, with her family. Her father runs a timber business. The police said that Khan is mentally unstable.
On Saturday, a threatening message was sent from an unknown number to the Mumbai traffic police’s WhatsApp line. The message warned that if Adityanath did not resign within 10 days, he would be killed similarly to former NCP minister Baba Siddique, who was fatally shot in Bandra on October 12.
Authorities promptly initiated an investigation and discovered that Khan was behind the threat. In a coordinated effort, the Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Ulhasnagar police located and detained the woman.
The police are remaining vigilant, as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is expected to visit Maharashtra to campaign for the upcoming November 20 state assembly elections. The incident has raised concerns about security arrangements ahead of his visit. Further investigation into her motives and state of mind is ongoing.
This marks the third time the Mumbai traffic police have received a threat message since the murder of Baba Siddique. On October 29, a message was sent threatening actor Salman Khan and demanding Rs 2 crore from him, leading to the arrest of a man from Bandra. In another incident, a separate message warned that Salman Khan’s situation would be worse than Siddique’s if he failed to pay Rs 5 crore.
