Mumbai-based mobility startup Chalo is using Snowflake’s AI Data Cloud to manage fleet data for BEST buses, enabling real-time tracking for commuters and delivering performance insights to fleet operators.
“A public example I can share is Chalo Mobility, a startup based in Mumbai. They manage fleet data for BEST buses, allowing commuters to track real-time bus arrivals via an app and giving fleet owners valuable insights into usage and performance,” said Vijayant Rai, Managing Director India, Snowflake.
“They provide a mobility solution for a fleet management of vehicles where they’re collecting data for you know, as these buses move around, passengers on their apps can find out when the bus is coming to the station, so they don’t have to end up waiting for buses, etc. And they’re able to give a huge amount of insights to the fleet owners in terms of, you know, the amount of passenger load and everything else there,” he added.
Snowflake has announced a major expansion to its AI Data Cloud for Manufacturing with new automotive-specific capabilities.
“What we’re announcing is a significant milestone for Snowflake and our partners,” said Tim Long, Global Head of Manufacturing, Snowflake. “We’re expanding this by launching automotive-specific solutions within this platform.”
According to Long, the automotive industry is undergoing major changes with connected, electric, and software-defined vehicles. Snowflake’s platform aims to support this shift with solutions like shop floor to cloud integration for real-time performance improvement, supply chain visibility, and connected vehicle data management.
“These automotive capabilities make it easy and scalable to ingest vehicle data into Snowflake, unlocking a wide range of innovation opportunities,” Long said.
On why Snowflake is launching a dedicated automotive strategy, Long explained, “Automotive is one of our fastest-growing sub-verticals, especially in terms of data generation. Whether it’s designing electric or software-defined vehicles, or managing aftermarket services, it all hinges on data.”
The platform includes partner-led solutions tailored to automotive. “Siemens is launching two key solutions on Snowflake: A supply chain parts visibility tool built on the Mendix platform, and the Simcenter Autonomy Data Analysis Solution, used for autonomous vehicle development,” Long shared.
Artificial intelligence is a major focus. “Large language models are helping to resolve root cause of production problems, much faster… A particularly exciting area is large vision models… Our partner, Landing AI, has built a native Snowflake app that labels defects during manufacturing and trains models to automate defect detection,” Long said.
Snowflake is also seeing strong traction in India’s automotive sector. “We are also now in conversation with very large auto manufacturers where they’re looking at use cases, for example, for commercial vehicles, for fleet management… having a SaaS-based AI Data Cloud, which is almost unlimited in capacity… is what they’re looking at,” said Rai.
He added that a major OEM is exploring battery traceability for its EV division using Snowflake.
