In a landmark move, food delivery and restaurant search & discovery company Zomato on Thursday announced its decision to rename itself Eternal Ltd., signalling a transformative shift beyond food delivery. The announcement, made by CEO Deepinder Goyal in a letter to shareholders, marks a defining moment in the company’s evolution as it expands into multiple business verticals.

Goyal highlighted that the name “Eternal” had already been in internal use following the acquisition of Blinkit, the quick-commerce platform. He noted that the decision to publicly adopt the new name reflects the growing significance of businesses beyond food delivery in Zomato’s future. While the corporate entity will transition to Eternal Ltd., the food delivery platform will retain the Zomato brand.

The company, which started as a simple food discovery platform in 2007, has grown into one of India’s most valuable tech firms, recently securing a spot in the BSE Sensex—a milestone Goyal considers both an achievement and a responsibility.

Reflecting on Zomato’s journey from a passion project to a business that has empowered millions of delivery partners, restaurant owners, and gig workers by improving their incomes and financial stability, Goyal emphasized that “Eternal” is more than just a name change

“It represents a mission statement and a long-term vision.” He described it as both a “promise and a paradox,” stating that true longevity comes from continuous reinvention, self-doubt, and an unwavering commitment to improvement.

Eternal Ltd. will comprise four key business units: Zomato – the core food delivery business, Blinkit – quick-commerce platform, Hyperpure – B2B supply chain business catering to restaurants, and District – platform for going-out activities.

Once shareholders approve the transition, the corporate website will shift from zomato.com to eternal.com, and the stock ticker will be updated from ZOMATO to ETERNAL.

This move reflects a larger trend in India’s startup ecosystem, where companies are diversifying beyond their original business models. Just as Facebook evolved into Meta to capture a broader vision, Zomato’s transition to Eternal Ltd. signals a deeper ambition to expand its influence beyond food-tech into a multi-vertical, tech-driven enterprise.
