The Punjabi Bagh flyover is expected to open next week, providing relief to commuters traveling between West Delhi, Southwest Delhi, Central Delhi, and Gurgaon, The Indian Express reported citing officials.

At present, the stretch, which is part of the Ring Road, experiences heavy traffic due to ongoing construction work. The flyover is a key component of the Integrated Corridor Development project in Punjabi Bagh.

A senior PWD official said that about 98 per cent of the work has been finished and the flyover is nearly ready to be open for traffic. “The only hindrance is that a tree is in the middle of the road; we have sent several applications to remove the tree… The department is now planning to open two of the three lanes on one side,” they added. The other side of the flyover will be fully opened soon. The 1.3-km-long flyover links the ESI Metro station with Club Road.

A section of this corridor, a half flyover at Moti Nagar, was inaugurated in March by former CM Arvind Kejriwal. The remaining work, including a footpath and a pedestrian underpass, has already missed two deadlines.

With the upcoming Delhi elections, officials said they plan to submit a proposal for the flyover’s inauguration, seeking a date and approval from CM and PWD Minister Atishi. “We hope to get approval soon from the CM to open the flyover for the public,” the officials said.
