The Union government has approved Rs 398 crore for 19 road development projects in Arunachal Pradesh under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for the fiscal year 2024-25. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, made this announcement stating its objective of improving last-mile connectivity in the northeastern state’s border areas. This development will lead to socio economic growth and enhance accessibility in remote regions.
Union Minister Gadkari underlined that the investments showcase the government’s commitment to boost infrastructure in underserved areas. ‘’This initiative will result in regional growth and will uplift livelihoods in the North-east, ”he mentioned in a social media post.
At present, there are 190 projects which cover 3,856-kilometre, worth Rs 81,540 crore are under construction in the northeast region. These projects are likely to get completed by September 2028. The planning of these projects reflects the government’s dedication for a long term vision for the region’s growth and development. Chief Minister Pema Khandu extended his gratitude for the allocation and termed it as transformative. He stated that the investment will strengthen connectivity, promote socio-economic development and enhance the living standards in the state’s remote regions.
Arunachal Frontier Highway
Last month, in a major infrastructure boost, Rs 28,229 crore for Arunachal Frontier Highway as allocated, it will be connecting 12 districts along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. The Highway is 1,637 kilometres long and is situated near the borders of India, Myanmar and China. It will be interlinking around 1,683 villages. The route will start from Bomdila and pass from towns like Nafra, Monigong and Huri and will end near Vijayanagar adjacent to the India-Myanmar border. The LAC will be 20 kilometres away from this highway.
