The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has kickstarted eight high-speed corridor and ring road projects in the first 100 days of the Modi 3.0 government, announced Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Ajay Tamta, on Friday. The key projects include the Agra-Gwalior, Kharagpur-Moregram, Dharad-Mehsana-Ahmedabad, Ayodhya Ring Road, Pathalgaon-Gumla, Kanpur Ring Road, Guwahati Ring Road, and the Nashik Phata-Khed Elevated Corridor.

The projects will reduce travel time by up to 60 per cent, increase traffic bearing capacity of the routes and bring down the cost on logistics, he said. In addition, they aim to generate over 5 crore man-days of employment, boosting the local economy and improving industrial and commercial connectivity.

Major Achievements in Infrastructure

Tamta also highlighted other major achievements, such as the approval of 215 kilometers of new road projects worth Rs 5,000 crore across Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Moreover, 219 kilometers of high-speed corridors have been completed, increasing the national total to 2,357 kilometers.

In a bid to modernize tolling, the ministry has launched a pilot project for barrier-free tolling using the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). Other initiatives include a cashless treatment scheme for road accident victims in Assam and Chandigarh, the implementation of the Automated Traffic Management System (ATMS) on 428 kilometers of highways, and the scrapping of 46,000 vehicles under the vehicle scrapping policy. Additionally, 12 RTO services have been made available online, ensuring transparency and convenience for citizens.
