Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena, along with Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, inaugurated 320 new electric buses on Tuesday, marking a significant step towards reducing pollution and improving public transportation in the capital.

Expansion of Public Transport Fleet to Combat Pollution

Speaking at the inauguration event, LG Saxena highlighted the importance of expanding the city’s public transport fleet to combat pollution and provide better services to Delhi’s residents. “Almost 320 buses are being launched, and they will provide relief to the public of Delhi. We are planning to add more buses. To bring down the pollution level in Delhi, public transport has to be increased, and this is a step in that direction,” said Saxena.

Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the city’s commitment to enhancing its public transport infrastructure. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gahlot announced, “With this addition, the total number of electric buses in Delhi has now reached 1,970. This is the highest number of electric buses compared to any city in the entire country. Now a total of 7,683 buses are on the roads in Delhi, serving the people of Delhi.”

Gahlot further added, “The Kejriwal government is committed to providing world-class, pollution-free, smooth transport services to the people of Delhi.”

The introduction of these new electric buses is part of the Delhi government’s broader strategy to promote sustainable urban transport and reduce the capital’s carbon footprint. With the latest addition, Delhi now boasts the largest fleet of electric buses in the country, setting a benchmark for other cities to follow.
