The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday, July 1, announced that the integration of the Barfiwala flyover with the Gokhale bridge has been completed in record time.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the BMC said, “The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has completed the challenging work of connecting the C. D. Barfiwala Flyover and Gopalkrishna Gokhale Flyover for travel between Andheri East and West, in a record-breaking 78 days.”

Additionally, it stated that, following the Traffic Police’s instructions, ancillary works and traffic management tests will be completed till July 3 post which the lane will be thrown open for West-East traffic on July 4.

“Following this, the lane will be opened for West-East traffic from Thursday, 4th July 2024, at 5 PM,” the post read.

Earlier in February, the Gokhale Bridge was opened for the public after two years. The move was welcomed by many commuters as it would ease traffic congestion, adding to the east-west connectivity. However, it was soon realised that the bridge was inaccessible due to misalignment with the adjoining CD Barfiwala Flyover. There was a six-foot-long gap between the two.
