Indian Railways is tirelessly working to provide better and convenient travel to the passengers. In this context, the national transporter has introduced Vande Bharat Express, the indigenous-built semi-high speed train, on different routes. Since its inception, the train has been warmly embraced by passengers all over the country.
With the introduction of this new age train, the travel time between two cities has reduced by more than 1-2 hrs. The Ministry of Railways has targeted to launch over 350 Vande Bharat Express trains in different phases. In the FY 2023-24, the national transporter has planned to launch two more series of semi-high speed trains – Vande Bharat Sleeper Car (for long distance) and Vande Metro (the Mini version).
‘Most Popular Train’
Presently, the Vande Bharat Express train is the most popular and fastest train in the country with its attractive aerodynamic design, interiors, state-of-the-art facilities, comfortable travel, safety management and safe travel parameters. The national transporter will introduce nine semi-high-speed trains on September 24, 2023, each equipped with a range of enhanced features.

- The seat recline angle was raised from 17.31 degrees to 19.37 degrees.
- The colour of the seat in the Executive Chair Car has been changed to blue from red.
- Extended foot rest for seats in Executive Chair Car (reduced from 670 mm to 530 mm).
- Provision of magazine bags for the last seats of Executive Chair Car class.
- Depth of wash basin increased to avoid splashing of water in toilets.
- Better access to mobile charging points under the seats.
- Lighting in toilets increased from 1.5 watts to 2.5 watts.
- Provision of safe space for wheelchairs of disabled passengers.
- Improved hammer box cover for easy access in case of emergency.
- Improved air tightness with insulation on panels for better air conditioning.
- More durable and better roller blind fabric with less transparency.
- Adopted a modified single-piece construction of FRP panels to enhance the interior decoration of coaches.
- Standardized the color of toilet panels for uniformity.
