The Indian Railways announced the commencement of train trials on the much-anticipated Katra-Reasi section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project on Saturday (December 28). This marks a significant milestone in connecting the region with the rest of the country through a modern and efficient railway network.
Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link
Spanning approximately 18 kilometers, the Katra-Reasi section is a vital segment of the USBRL project, aimed at enhancing connectivity and boosting economic development in the region. The section features state-of-the-art infrastructure, including advanced signaling systems, tunnels, and bridges designed to withstand the region’s challenging terrain and weather conditions.
During trial runs, technical parameters such as track stability, tunnel ventilation, signaling, and train control systems will undergo rigorous testing to ensure safe and seamless operations, officials stated. These trials are the final step before the section is opened for passenger and freight services.
Katra-Reasi section set to reduce travel time
The Katra-Reasi section is expected to significantly reduce travel time for commuters and improve freight transport efficiencies. Beyond connectivity, this new link will provide a reliable, environmentally friendly transportation option for passengers and goods across the region.
Officials emphasised that the Indian Railways remains fully committed to the timely completion of the USBRL project. With a focus on creating world-class rail infrastructure, the initiative aims to provide passengers with exceptional amenities while meeting international standards.
By prioritising this landmark project, the Indian Railways seeks to bolster regional development and ensure safe, efficient, and modern travel for all.
