Two coaches of the CSMT Shalimar Express derailed near Kalamna station in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district on Tuesday, according to a senior railway official. Dilip Singh, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM) of South East Central Railway, confirmed that no fatalities or major injuries were reported following the incident, reports ANI.
The derailment involved two coaches, specifically coach S2 and a parcel van, of train number 18029, the CSMT Shalimar Express, Singh said. “No passenger was injured in this incident, and there is no information about any loss of life,” he added.
The railway administration has promptly initiated measures to ensure passengers can continue their journeys with minimal disruption. Singh emphasized the administration’s commitment to addressing the situation swiftly: “The railway administration is making every effort to take the passengers to their destination.” He also mentioned that helplines have been set up, and passengers are being provided with essential facilities while they await further transportation arrangements.
Restoration work at the site is currently underway, with railway officials working diligently to clear the derailed coaches and restore normal train operations. The authorities have also urged passengers to remain calm as they continue to manage the aftermath of the incident.
This derailment follows a similar incident earlier in October, when a local train derailed at Kalyan station, also in Maharashtra, with one coach going off the track. Fortunately, no severe injuries were reported in either of these derailments.
While the cause of the latest derailment is yet to be determined, railway officials are closely investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Passengers affected by the derailment have been assured of continued assistance as the railway administration focuses on restoring full services and ensuring the safe completion of all scheduled journeys.
