To enhance passenger safety and comfort, the Southern Railway has announced the conversion of conventional rakes on select trains into modern Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB) coaches. The move will apply to Train No. 12671/12672 Dr MGR Chennai Central–Mettupalayam Nilgiri Superfast Express, starting March 3, 2025, from Dr MGR Chennai Central, and March 4, 2025, from Mettupalayam.

Improved Passenger Experience with LHB Coaches

LHB coaches are known for their superior safety features, higher carrying capacity, and improved riding comfort. With this upgrade, passengers on the Nilgiri Superfast Express can expect smoother journeys and enhanced security.

Rake Sharing with Chennai-Mangaluru Express

Following the LHB conversion, the Nilgiri Superfast Express will share rakes with Train No. 12685/12686 Dr MGR Chennai Central–Mangaluru Central Express. This arrangement will take effect from March 1, 2025, from Dr MGR Chennai Central, and March 2, 2025, from Mangaluru Central.

New Train Composition

The integrated rake composition for both services will feature 22 coaches, including:

  • 1 AC First Class Coach
  • 2 AC Two-Tier Coaches
  • 3 AC Three-Tier Coaches
  • 2 AC Three-Tier Economy Coaches
  • 8 Sleeper Class Coaches
  • 4 General Second Class Coaches
  • 1 Second Class Divyangjan-Friendly Coach
  • 1 Luggage cum Brake Van

The revised setup ensures a balanced mix of accommodation options, catering to various passenger needs.
