The Southern Railways has announced that they will be running special trains between Tirunelveli and Chennai Egmore to accommodate extra travelers and to ease the summer rush on this route.
Southern Railways Special Train Details:
As per the statement provided by Southern Railways, train No. 06790 will leave from Tirunelveli at 10:45 PM on April 21, 2024 (Sunday) and reach Chennai Egmore by 10:15 AM on the same day.
On the way to its return journey, train No. 06789 will leave for Chennai Egmore at 12:45 PM today and will reach its destination Tirunelveli at 12:45 AM the next day.
The coach composition will consist of 1 AC Two Tier Coach, 2 AC Three Tier Coaches, 10 Sleeper Class Coaches, 3 General Second Class Coaches, and 2 Second Class Coaches which will be specially catered to Divyangjan.

In the Union Budget 2024, Railways Minister Ashwini Vasihnaw has allocated Rs 12, 173 crore for the Southern Railway for the financial year 2024-25. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu was allotted a remarkable amount of Rs 6,331 crore, and Rs 2744 was dedicated to Kerala, as per PTI report.
Vashnaw highlighted that the budget allotted for both the states was seven times higher on average than the regime of UPA. This remarkable increase in budget amount can be seen as a stepping stone in railways infrastructure development.
