South Western Railway (SWR) has unveiled the much-anticipated Public Time Table-21, which will come into effect on 1st January 2025. The new timetable aims to enhance connectivity, improve operational efficiency, and provide better convenience for passengers traveling across the network.

Introduction of New Train Services

As part of the new timetable, SWR has introduced 09 pairs of new trains between October 2023 and December 2024. These include four pairs of Vande Bharat trains, one bi-weekly express, one weekly express, and three pairs of MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) trains, reflecting the railway’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for efficient and modern travel options.

Increased Train Frequency and Extensions

To improve connectivity across the region, the frequency of one pair of trains will be increased from six days a week to daily. Additionally, 09 pairs of trains have been extended to provide more travel options for passengers and to further streamline operations.

Operational and Structural Enhancements

The new timetable also includes several key operational and structural enhancements. Four pairs of trains have had their days adjusted, while four pairs of train numbers have been revised. In an effort to reduce delays and optimize scheduling, two pairs of slip coaches have been eliminated, thus avoiding the need for shunting. Furthermore, 37 trains have been sped up by 5 to 60 minutes, offering passengers quicker travel times.

Modernization Initiatives

In line with the ongoing modernization efforts, SWR has converted 08 rakes into modern LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) rakes, ensuring a more comfortable and safe travel experience. Additionally, four pairs of DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) rakes have been upgraded to MEMU rakes, which are more efficient for local and suburban services. In a bid to enhance accessibility and convenience, 13 pairs of trains have been provided with additional stoppages.

Renumbering of Special Trains

A significant change in the new timetable is the renumbering of several special trains. A total of 59 SWR special trains, along with trains from Central Railway (CR), South Central Railway (SCR), and Southern Railway (SR), have been assigned regular train numbers, providing greater clarity and consistency in train services.

Train Timing Revisions

The new timetable also brings a revision to the arrival and departure timings of 327 trains. These changes are intended to improve the operational efficiency of the railway network while also benefiting passengers by ensuring more punctual services.

With these improvements, South Western Railway is poised to offer a more efficient and passenger-friendly rail experience, as it continues to modernize its services and expand its network. Passengers can expect a more seamless and timely travel experience starting from January 2025.
