South Eastern Railway (SER) has achieved significant milestones in freight operations during the first nine months of the current financial year (April-December 2024-25). The railway zone recorded 156.86 million tonnes of originating freight loading, marking a 1.63% increase compared to the same period in the previous financial year.
In addition to the rise in freight volume, SER reported a notable 2.17% growth in originating freight revenue during this period. The revenue from freight operations stood at Rs 14,216.99 crore, up from Rs 13,914.47 crore in the corresponding period of 2023-24.
Growth Driven by Key Commodities
Coal loading played a pivotal role in this achievement, with SER transporting 41.38 million tonnes of coal, reflecting a 6.54% increase over the previous year. Other key commodities contributing to the freight success included iron ore, pig iron, finished steel, cement, food grains, and fertilizers.
