Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched 10 new Vande Bharat trains on various routes across India. These trains were flagged off between New Jalpaiguri-Patna, Patna-Lucknow, Lucknow-Dehradun, Puri-Visakhapatnam, Kalaburagi–Bengaluru, Ranchi-Varanasi, Khajuraho-Delhi, Ahmedabad-Mumbai, Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam, and Mysuru-Chennai. The launched trains have now taken the total count of operational Vande Bharat Express trains in the country to over 50.

Vande Bharat routes to be extended

Apart from the 10 new trains that were launched, four existing Vande Bharat trains will see an extension of their routes. These are:

  1. The Ajmer to Delhi Vande Bharat train will be extended till Chandigarh
  2. Ahmedabad to Jamnagar route will be extended till Dwarka
  3. Gorakhpur to Lucknow route will be extended till Prayagraj
  4. Thiruvananthapuram to Kasargod route will be extended extended till Mangaluru

The last time a new set of Vande Bharat trains was introduced was in December 2023 on six routes. These routes were Katra-New Delhi, Amritsar-Delhi, Coimbatore-Bangalore, Mangalore-Madgaon, Jalna-Mumbai, and Ayodhya-Delhi. Additionally, another Vande Bharat train servicing the Delhi-Varanasi route was also introduced around the same time.

Delhi to have the highest number of Vande Bharat trains

Delhi will have the highest number of Vande Bharat Express, with 10 trains terminating in the national capital. These trains establish vital connections between Delhi and destinations such as Dehradun, Amb Andaura, Bhopal, Ayodhya, Amritsar, and now Khajuraho. Following closely behind, Mumbai will have six dedicated trains, including new services to Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Chennai follows suit with five trains, while the second Vande Bharat train for Mysuru is set to commence operations starting Tuesday.
